Moncton Poet Laureate Program

Moncton could join other maritime cities in getting it’s very own official poet.

To highlight the 20th edition of the Frye festival, the committee is asking the city for help in creating the city’s first ever poet laureate program.

General Director of the Frye festival, Emilie Turmel says this is right on track with the city’s 2019-2026 Cultural Plan.

Poet Laureates act as poets for the city and cultural ambassadors.

They are meant to inspire residents to be engaged and interested in literature.

The festival chooses poets, called the every year to write and read poems during the festivities.

This initiative hopes to extend their duties to all official City of Moncton events.

Nominations will start on May 13 to July 2nd.
