With gas prices slowly but surely rising, a user friendly transit system is increasingly valuable.
The CEO of Mind Sea Development, Bill Wilson, says they created a new app called Transit 360 to help Monctonians navigate Codiac Transpo in ways customized to their personal travel use.
“You know I take the bus at various routes all the time and I want to be able to look that stuff up really quickly so adding favourites whether it be a route that you always take, or a bus stop that you always have to go to to take several routes from,” says Wilson.
Bill Wilson says the current systems are tough to navigate.
“You’ve got paper schedules, and phones and things like that that make it just a bit daunting to new users and people who’ve used it for a long time as well,” says Wilson.
Wilson says this app was only possible once the City of Moncton made the transition to Open Data in the Spring of this year which lets them share all sorts of information with the public, including transit data
“We got a notification that their GTFS data was available which is the general transit feed specification that is used for Google Maps and that’s the same data format that we use,” says Wilson. “So we were able to import the data from Moncton pretty quickly and were able to release it in our app in a matter of days.”
The app is currently only available in the Apple Store, but an Android version is in the works for later this year or possibly early next year.
