The bad smell in Moncton’s North End has persisted for many months now and the deputy mayor wants city staff to set up a town hall meeting this fall.
Bryan Butler wants representatives of Trans Aqua to be there to answer questions directly from residents.
“Why have I asked for Trans Aqua? There are still emails going back and forth where they are still not accepting 100 percent that it is them. We want to make sure that this gets out. As far as I’m concerned, it is them.”
Butler also wants area MLA’s to attend since air quality is a provincial jurisdiction and not the responsibility of the City of Moncton.
Councillor Dave Steeves said he contacted Trans Aqua to note how their feedback form is very cumbersome and can’t be filled out on a smart phone.
“One comment cited by Trans Aqua in their most recent letter to us is they say that there was only one negative comment that they’ve heard. So that just speaks to the inefficiency of the form.”
Steeves said residents don’t care how the smell stops, they just want it to stop.
He added the neighbourhood needs hope this won’t continue year after year.
