Over $13 million has been invested so far, but the city still has no firm funding committment from the provincial and federal governments to help cover the cost of a downtown entertainment centre.
More money was earmarked for the proposed downtown entertainment centre at City Council last night.
Council approved an additional payment of over $154, 000 for work provided by three firms helping the City organize their Request For Proposal.
Mayor George Leblanc is disappointed with all of the negativity surrounding this proposed centre.
He says funding this project is not an expense. it is an investment in the downtown, the city and the cuture of Moncton.
He remains optimistic that they will receive funding from the provincial and federal government for this project.
Councillor Brian Hicks raised concerns, wondering how much this project is going to end up costing the taxpayers once it is all said and done.
He feels the city has not been open and transparent with taxpayers on this file. He says they have never explained who paid the $12.5 million to buy the Highfield Square property and how much property tax Moncton homeowners paid.
