Moncton Mayor Disappointed With Councillors Accusations

Things got a little heated at Moncton City council last night, as Councillor Daniel Bourgeois took aim at Mayor George Leblanc over the recent Moncton Wildcats scheduling conflict.

Bourgeois asked questions about why the double booking of a car show and playoff game happened in the first place, while there is a contract in place, that should have prevented that from happening.

He alleged that the doublebooking of the car show on the same night as a playoff game, was intentional.

Bourgeois added that the Mayor went to the media arguing that the doublebooking he had created, proved that the City should spend $95 million dollars on a downtown centre.

Mayor George Leblanc responded saying was very disappointed with the Councillors accusations.

Leblanc says, “This letter has gone as far as to suggest that I organized the entire problem in order to justify the construction of a downtown centre, a suggestion that would be laughable, if we were not dealing with such serious issues.”

He says, “This type of approach is divisive, destructive and disruptive to Council and it distracts away from the real issues that face Council.”
