A Moncton man has been charged in connection to a fire that was deliberately set at the Codiac RCMP Detachment in Moncton, N.B.

Around 2:50 a.m. on Saturday, members of the Codiac detachment noticed a man in the lobby of the detachment. Police say a fire was started, and the man then fled the scene. An officer quickly extinguished the fire and no one was injured.

Shortly after 6:30 a.m., the same morning, RCMP received a report of threats being made outside a residence on John Street. They say the suspect matched the description of the man in the lobby earlier arrested a 46-year-old man.

Yesterday, he appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was charged with the following additional charges:

  • arson
  • two counts of uttering threats
  • two counts of assaulting a peace officer
  • resisting arrest

Gallant was also charged with uttering threats and mischief on an unrelated matter.

He was sent for a 30-day psychological evaluation and is scheduled to appear in Moncton Provincial Court on February 3rd at 1:30 p.m.
