Moncton is the most successful area of New Brunswick for creating music according to the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada.
SOCAN used population data from Statistics Canada to compile a list of the most prominent areas in the country for songwriting and composing.
Spokesperson Andrew Berthoff says he’s not surprised about Moncton given the rich culture in the region.
“I think it’s a cultural thing. Really the musical pride or whether it is geneaology or the hertitage. Certainly the Celtic influence in the Maritimes has been very prominent,” he notes.
Meanwhile, the top 10 areas for music creation across Canada were in the nation’s two largest cities – Montreal and Toronto.
