Moncton home extensively damaged by fire

Fire has caused extensive damage to a home on McSweeney Avenue in Moncton, according to fire officials.

Moncton Fire Acting Platoon Chief Jamie Rooney said more than a dozen firefighters were called to the scene around 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Rooney said the first arriving crews found heavy smoke coming from the rear of the home, where the bulk of the fire was contained.

One cat was rescued from the home and handed over the SPCA, he said.

No one was home when the fire broke out and no firefighters were injured.

Rooney said the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
