Moncton Headstart School Supply Drive In Desperate Need Of Donations

An increase in the number of children needing school supplies this year, has left Moncton Headstart short on donations.

Parents Program Coodinator Lorie-Ann Carson says hundreds of kids have already picked up school supplies, in just the first week, “We started serving on August 8th, and we have have been serving for five days and we are already over 500 kids. I’m concerned that we’re not going to be able to continue to serve until the 24th. We’re out of pencils, we’re out of pens, duotangs, headphones, dry erasers glue, scissors and our book bags are just flying off the shelves.”

Carson adds, “Last year, the program provided to 900 kids in three weeks. I thought going into the program this year, I thought the numbers might be lower than last year. I thought maybe last year was an exception, but this is proving not to be true.”

Carson fears that if they don’t receive more donations, then they will have to wrap up the program early, leaving some children without.

Donations can be dropped off at Jean Coutu locations in Greater Moncton, Giant Tiger on Mapleton Road, and at Moncton Headstart on Mountain Road.
