Moncton food bank to receive Purolator truck donation

A donation to the Peter McKee Community Food Centre will mean more flexibility for transportation.

As part of the Purolator Tackle Hunger campaign, the courier company has retired 14 of its delivery trucks.

One of them will be donated to the Moncton food bank.

“Reliable transportation is essential to our work, from collecting donations to getting food to the agencies and people we serve,” said Gary Jamieson, President, Peter McKee Community Centre in Moncton. “We thank Purolator for helping strengthen our capacity and for supporting hunger-relief efforts in Moncton.”

The truck will be presented to the Peter McKee Centre in the near future.

“This truck donation is one example of how we continue to grow and evolve the Purolator Tackle Hunger program to increase our impact in addressing food insecurity,” said Lisa MacDougall, Purolator Tackle Hunger Champion and Supervisor Adjustments in Moncton.

“By giving this retired delivery truck a new purpose, we’re helping the food bank overcome a practical challenge and reach
more people in their communities.”

With the addition of the 14 retired delivery trucks, Purolator has donated 33 trucks to food banks across Canada.

“Food banks are being asked to do more than ever before, as demand continues to rise across the country. At the same time, many are facing growing pressures on their resources and capacity,” said Kirstin Beardsley, Chief Executive Officer, Food Banks Canada. “Transportation remains a critical part of ensuring food reaches communities efficiently, and partnerships like this help strengthen the food bank network’s ability to respond to need wherever it exists. We’re grateful to Purolator for their longstanding commitment to this work.”
