Moncton firefighters are getting a big raise, but they’re still the lowest paid among firefighters in Atlantic Canada’s major cities.
An arbitrator has awarded the city’s firefighters a 16% wage increase over a four year period.
The deal is retroactive to 2012 and will expire at the end of next year.
Moncton mayor George LeBlanc says the city values its firefighters and the work they do, but the decision will put significant additional strain on the city’s financial situation.
There are 110 International Association of Fire Fighters members in Moncton.
