Fire has destroyed a home on Sheila Street in the Berry Mills area.
Moncton Fire Platoon Chief Rob Brine says when they arrived on scene at around 5 yesterday afternoon, the front of the house and the roof were fully involved. Once they determined there was no one inside, they immediately took action.
The extreme heat made it very difficult.
“We have to be very careful to watch for heat exhaustion. We are all bundled up in our bunker gear, so we normally utilize our manpower in sporadics. We make sure they are watered down and cycle them through.”
Water also had to be shuttled in to fight the fire.
Brine says two residents were out back in the swimming pool when it broke out, and a neighbour stopped by, informing them that the front of the house was on fire.
It took around an hour to extinguish most of the blaze, but Brine says they were on scene for around 4 hours.
There’s no word on the cause yet. Fire investigators will be on scene today.
