Moncton Fire has added five new Dodge Ram trucks to replace some of its older fleet.
Deputy Chief Rob Brine says, “One of the reasons we did it, was to buy five identical vehicles allowing us to rotate our vehicles, because a couple of our vehicles get more mileage and more use then others. This will allow us over the next five to six years, we can start recycling, moving some of the vehicles with more mileage to some of the the vehicles with lower mileage, keep things a little more even within the fleet. Hopefully they should last a lot longer than our previous ones did.”
These new vehicles will be used by the Deputy Chief, Platoon Chiefs, Training division and Fire Prevention.
Brine says they are all outfitted with computers, kind of of like an office on wheels, “They all have complete access to our computer system to do anything we need to do on site. Our Instant Commanders, when there is a working fire or working emergency will be able to access all of the information they need at their fingertips.”
They can be used for on scene command and pre-fire planning, which will mean a more effective attack, “We’ll be able to see an overview of the building from Google maps. We can see where the hydrants are, where the location of all of the entrances are, and it allows all of our Instant Commanders a birds eye of what is going on,” Brine says.
Brine says a lot of the larger fire departments across Canada are now using computers more efficiently.
One of the trucks is in service now, another is starting today, and the other three should be in service next week.
