Moncton Councillor Does Not Support Downtown Centre

Not everyone is convinced a downtown centre for Moncton will help stimulate the regional economy.

Ward 3 city councillor Brian Hicks is not in favour of the project and has made that clear from the beginning.

Hicks believes the $107 million centre has received priority from council at the expense of many other worthy capital projects for the city.

“It’s about all of the capital projects that we have taken out of the capital budget. In one year alone, I think we took $10 to $20 million out of capital projects just to make room for the downtown centre.

Hicks also says the downtown centre will become too much of a burden on Moncton taxpayers.
