A funding shortfall may exist but a Moncton city councillor is determined to see a new east end pool up and running by next summer.
Shawn Crossman says the $2.3 million project has been close to his heart since the aging pool was shut down in 2013.
Crossman believes the remaining $700,000 needed could be found in reserves if the City managed to find $4.7 million for the new downtown plaza.
“The unfortunate sections of Moncton always seem to be put on the back burner. When there’s a project with importance such as this coming forward, there always seems to be a way that city hall will say ‘we’re going to cut here and we’re going to cut there’ and that’s not fair,” he says.
Crossman gives credit to the province for contributing $500,000 and he has also sought federal support from MP Ginette Petitpas Taylor’s office.
