There will be a vacant seat in Fredericton when the legislature resumes in March.
Arlene Dunn officially resigned as MLA for Saint John Harbour last Thursday.
The clerk of the legislative assembly confirmed Dunn’s departure in an email Tuesday.
Dunn announced her plans to resign on Feb. 2 — the same day she stepped away from her cabinet duties.
At the time, she was serving as post-secondary education, training and labour minister, Indigenous affairs minister, and the minister responsible for immigration.
“It is with mixed emotions that I announce that I am stepping away from my cabinet duties immediately and that I will be resigning my MLA seat in the near term,” Dunn said in a statement.
The one-term politician noted that the decision came after “much consideration and discussion” with her family.
It is likely her seat will remain vacant until the next provincial election, which is scheduled for October.
That is because the premier does not have to call a byelection within 12 months of a scheduled general election.
