Minneapolis To Disband Police

Minneapolis plans to dismantle its Police Department after the death of George Floyd.

A majority of Minneapolis City Councillors committed on Sunday to begin defunding their police and put that money into other safety initiatives.

Minneapolis will determine how to replace their police force over the next year.

It comes after George Floyd, a black man, was killed on May 25th when a now-former Minneapolis Police officer knelt on his neck. That sparked almost two weeks of protests, and led to charges against the officer and three others who were at the scene.
