Minister Apologizes For Confusion Over Rainbow Crosswalks

The provincial government is backtracking on a letter sent out to several municipalities in March, about rainbow crosswalks.

The Minister of the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure has apologized for the confusion it caused and says it did not accurately represent the views of the provincial government.

In an emailed statement, Bill Fraser says that the government is encouraging municipalities to install rainbow crosswalks where appropriate and he assures New Brunswickers and members of the LGBTQ plus community that both the department and the provincial government promote the importance of inclusion in our communities.

The letter sent out earlier this year, stated that the province would not approve rainbow crosswalks on provincial roads, due to a study that has been launched by the Transportation Association of Canada…looking at safety, and multi-coloured crosswalks.
