It is no April Fools’ joke — New Brunswick’s minimum wage is going up on April 1.
The province says the minimum wage will increase by 25 cents to $11.50 per hour.
All future increases will remain indexed to New Brunswick’s consumer price index, rounded to the nearest five cents.
Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Trevor Holder says linking the minimum wage to the CPI will allow employers and employees to be better prepared for increases when they occur.
“As a government, we have committed to establishing predictable increases to the minimum wage to benefit both employers and employees,” said Holder in a news release.

Other provinces and territories also link their minimum wage to the consumer price index, including Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Yukon.
All four Atlantic provinces previously agreed to harmonize the date of effect of any minimum wage increase to April 1.
