Metro Moncton Arts Leader Dies

The Metro Moncton arts and cultural community has lost a leader.

Capitol Theatre general manager Marc Chouinard passed away on Tuesday after being ill with cancer.

Moncton city councillor and Capitol Theatre board chair Blair Lawrence says Chouinard’s reach went far beyond the theatre.

“He was always involved with things such as the ECMA’s and a number of provincial events and concerts. But really, his connection to the artists and the artist community was one of his greatest strengths and his greatest passions.”

Originally from Campbellton, he was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2010.

Chouinard had been manager of the Capitol Theatre for 14 years.

A public tribute will be held at the venue at a later date.
