Messy Weather Across NB Today

Students across most of the province have another day off today, thanks to some very messy conditions .

There are a variety of warnings across the province today, due to a mixed bag of precipitation. In Moncton and Southeastern New Brunswick, we are under what is called a Weather Warning

Environment Canada Meteorologist Wanda Batten says this is an unusual warning that isn’t sent out too often. Basically, it is used when we have unique situations that aren’t normally covered by the other types of warnings that we issue.

She says, “In this particular circumstance, we are expecting a very significant amount of ice pellets. The ice pellets are going to become more intense through the morning and we’re going to see upwards of 10 centimetres of ice pellets before the phase changes back to snow this evening.”

Batten says the precipitation varies across the province, to the north of us, we have winter storm and snowfall warnings, Saint John and regions are under rainfall warnings. We also have freezing rain warnings in other parts.

Bottom line, it’s already messy on the roads and the precipitation is expected to continue all day today and into tonight.

Batten says we should see it wrap up by tomorrow.
