Access Open Minds has three partner organizations in the province – one in the Acadian Peninsula, in Elsipogtog First Nation and in Saint John.
CEO Bernard Lord says the foundation is supporting the program because it falls in line with one its three main causes, youth and child mental health.
“A lasting impact throughout their lives is one of the reasons we felt we wanted to invest early into the lives of young people to make sure they can deal with whatever mental issues that they have. That they feel there are people there to support them,” he notes.
Since 2015, the New Brunswick Health Research Foundation, supported by the provincial government, has also invested $1.7 million over three years toward the youth mental health initiative.
