A poll shows Canadians are giving more during this time of year.
The Ipsos Reid poll results show 59% of people are likely to give a charitable gift over the holidays.
While it’s only a one per cent increase from last year, gift-giving expert with World Vision, Alicia Pereira, says it should come as no surprise.
“I think that people are really looking more towards helping people who aren’t as fortunate as we maybe are,” says Pereira. “Of course people are affected by the economy but one thing that really sticks out is just how giving Canadians are in general.”
Three quarters of Canadians who took the poll say they think about those who are less fortunate during the holiday season.
Pereira says it speaks to our character to be such a generous community and adds there’s been a 6% increase in donations so far this festive season bringing the total to almost half of all those polled who donated.
