Members of the Moncton Fire Department and Ambulance New Brunswick saved a man from drowning on Wednesday evening.
Crews responded to a Moncton hotel around 6:35 p.m. for a report of a man who was underwater in a pool for a long period of time.
Upon arriving on the scene, Platoon chief Keith Guptill said the individual had already been removed from the water, and members began providing CPR. The man who was in his 20s was not a strong swimmer, said Guptill.
“If someone has cardiac arrest because they have a heart problem or their heart is failing or something like that, that’s different. We and ANB would do 20 minutes of CPR on scene and then transport that patient if their viable,” Guptill said.
” When it comes to a drowning or hypothermia, the cardiac arrest is brought about by an outside source or an outside force,” he noted, adding this was not a case of hypothermia.
Crews were on scene for around 45 to 50 minutes.
Before he was transported to the hospital, Guptill said they did determine the man had a heartbeat and blood pressure. However, the platoon chief is unsure of the individual’s condition.
