Man Drowns Retrieving Boat On Miramichi River

A 44-year-old man from Red Bank has drowned while trying to retrieve his boat on the North West branch of the Miramichi River.

RCMP were called on Monday afternoon around 1 o’clock about a man in distress along the river near Red Bank.

Police believe the man made attempts to retrieve his boat as it began to float away.

He began to struggle in the water before going under.

With help from RCMP divers, firefighters, ground search and rescue and volunteers, the body was recovered about 25 metres from shore around 9 o’clock last night.
