Major Winter Storm To Be Followed By More Arctic Air

Environment Canada is forecasting hazardous weather conditions over the next 12 hours or so as a major winter storm moves through our region.

A winter storm warning and a wind warning are in place for Greater Moncton with snow changing to freezing rain and ice pellets and later to rain tonight.

Meteorologist Claude Cote says strong, gusty winds between 60 and 90 km/h are a major factor with this system with reduced visibility in blowing and drifting snow.

Cote adds a storm surge warning along the coast is not in place but he says water levels will be quite high tonight from Miramichi to Bouctouche.

The storm should clear out by late tomorrow morning in Southeast New Brunswick but he adds more cold air will filter in behind it making for a very cold weekend.

Temperatures are forecast to fall as low as -24 C by early Sunday morning.
