Magnetic Hill Wharf Village Gets A New Lease On Life Under New Owners

A new owner is revitalizing the Wharf Village at Magnetic Hill, planning to open in the spring of 2018.

Owner/operator Jenna Cann says her husband, who works at the Magnetic Hill Zoo as a zookeeper, gave her the idea to bring the Wharf Village back to life.

“Our vision is to create a family friendly and welcoming environment,” says Cann. “We’ll be fully bilingual, we’ll keep true to the tourist environment of gift shops, and food and experiences and welcoming everybody, both local and tourist to come and enjoy the Magnetic Hill Wharf Village.”

She says plenty of work needs to be done before opening in Spring 2018.

“We’re working with local providers in terms of contractors, engineers, retail providers, and so really, we feel that our plan, if we execute it correctly it will be a success so we’re absolutely excited,” says Cann.

She adds working with local businesses both during construction and afterwards for their food, gifts, and experiences is important to her and her business partner David Booth.

“The Wharf will be renovated, the buildings will be renovated, internally there’s some aesthetic needs, externally it requires a bit of work, but structurally they’re quite good,” says Cann. “Actually they’re quite sound buildings and the Wharf will work with a local engineer and get that structurally back up and running.”

Cann says they are going to get to work as soon as they get the keys in the next week, and aim to be open and ready for visitors next Spring.
