Local Olympia Cheer Team Brings Home National Championship

A local cheer team are now National champions.

Moncton’s Olympia All-Star Cheerleading Junior Level 1 team were in Niagara Falls, Ontario over the weekend.

They placed first in the National championship and second in the Canadian finals.

Coach Lorraine Cail-Byron says their hard work and determination paid off, and they all worked together, “Most of the time in cheerleading, it is their heart that determines it. It is their confidence. No one is sitting out on the bench and sitting out an watching someone else do something. Everyone is contributing to that team. We always say if one child doesn’t show up, someone else can’t perform that night, and it’s true. It takes the full team.”

Cail-Byron says the hard and determination of the team has paid off.

The 17 team members return home today.

Cail-Byron says the sport if cheer continues to grow, “When we first opened our doors four years ago, we had around, close to a hundred athletes. We are well over that now, we have tripled in size.”
