Local Charity In Dire Financial Straits After Fundraiser Backfires

A local charity is in rough financial shape after a disastrous fundraiser over the weekend backfired.

Big Hearts, Small City hosted a concert fundraiser Saturday night, but ended up losing money after selling only 22 tickets.

Founder Jason Surette says those benefit concerts are fairly expensive.

“With the cost of hosting the event, and the money that we raised by selling those tickets, and the 50/50 draw, and the donation bucket, we ended up losing just over $2,100,” says Surette.

He adds until they have more money, they will be unable to help those who need it.

“We’re at a very big loss, our charity only had a thousand dollars to it’s name before this concert, so with losing $2,100 that puts us in a severe hole,” says Surette. “Our charity has no funds at this time.”

Surette hopes the community will step up to help them now that they are the ones in need.

“Most of the things that we do to help people require funds,” says Surette. “We help people in poverty, the elderly, homeless, and most of the resources that we need to be able to help people is funds, so that’s exactly what we need to be able to do that.”

Surette says they can issue taxable receipts to anyone who donates.
