Local Bar Owner Says Changes To Smoke Free Places Act Won’t Have Major Impact

Starting July 1st, smoking on or within three metres of patios is going to be illegal.

Thanks to amendments to the Smoke Free Places Act announced yesterday.

St Louis Bar and Grill Owner Operator Keith MacIntosh says he doesn’t anticipate a drop in business.

He says, “Most of our guests who do smoke, are very conscious of those who don’t. It’s very rare that we have people smoke on the patio, even though it is allowed. Most would take advantage of the smoking area we had set up.”

As of the first of July, smoking will also be banned within 9 metres of doors, windows and air intakes of enclosed public spaces and indoor workplaces as well as most public spaces.

MacIntosh is sure it will be disappointing to some smokers, but he prefers to be able to provide a family and kid friendly environment while still letting smokers partake as long as they are past the three meter limit.
