Loblaw Recalls ‘No Name’ Frozen Chicken Products

Loblaw is voluntarily recalling all No Name breaded frozen chicken products sold across Canada.

The recall includes chicken nuggets, chicken strips, chicken burgers and $10 chicken fries sold on or before February 8, 2019.

The company says it plans to introduce only 100 per cent fully cooked chicken nuggets, strips and burgers going forward due to the potential risk of illness associated with frozen raw chicken products.

“Improper handling and preparation of these and any other raw chicken products could expose consumers to salmonella,” said a statement from the company.

“According to Health Canada, the risk of contracting salmonella can be avoided if safe food handling, preparation and cooking practices are followed.”

Canadian health officials have investigated 15 national outbreaks linked to raw chicken, including frozen raw breaded chicken products, since May of 2017.

There have been 529 lab-confirmed cases of salmonella as part of the outbreaks and 90 people have been hospitalized.

Loblaw says anyone with the recalled products can return them for a full refund.
