Liberals Spell Out How Much They’re Going To Spend On Roads

There’s no word on specific projects yet but the province’s capital budget contains more than $597 million.

Most of the money, over 400 milion, will be spent on maintaining and fixing up roads and bridges. Almost $96 million will be spent in schools, 60 million in health-care facilities and 5.6 million in universities and community colleges. $11.8 million has been earmarked for energy retrofits and renewable energy projects at public buildings.

Finance Minister Roger Melanson says the new Strategic Infrastructure Initiative will kick start the provincial economy and create employment with the spending of almost 600 million dollars over 4 years.

Melanson predicts up to 17 hundred and 50 jobs a year will be created and $120 million injected annually into the provincial economy.
