The new executive director of the New Brunswick Public Library Service is facing criticism from the Opposition Liberals.
Kevin Cormier was recently hired for the job, which pays up to $114,000 a year.
But the Liberals say he falls “woefully short” of the essential qualifications for the job posting, which included a master’s degree in library or information studies.
Cormier, who used to run the Kings Landing Historical Settlement near Fredericton, went to the Moncton Flight College and a business school in Toronto, according to his LinkedIn profile.
“This is a joke, an embarrassment for the government and the people of New Brunswick,” said Campbellton-Dalhousie MLA Guy Arseneault, who is also the Liberal critic for post-secondary education, in a news release.
Arseneault said he believes there were many people who applied for the job because they had qualifications in library science.
“This is a slap in the face for them, bad news for our libraries, and another black eye for the Higgs government,” he said.
The Liberals are calling on the government to rescind Cormier’s hiring.
