Leader Of Peoples Alliance Says Government Needs To Address Duality In NB

The leader of the People’s Alliance Party believes a discussion about duality must happen in New Brunswick if the province is serious about cutting costs.

Kris Austin says two of the biggest government departments have parallel administrative systems.

He says, “Horizon Health, which is a bilingual health authority and the Vitalite Health Network, which is a bilingual health authority. So we’re trying to keep two systems afloat, education is the same way. Duality just doesn’t make sense. it just divides the province and it has a hefty pricetag with it.”

Austin says he understands that francophones once had difficulty accessing services in their language and believes that was unjust.

But to correct that problem, he adds the pendulum has swung so far the other way that our policies are set in overdrive to make sure that doesn’t happen again.
