Kitchen Fire Started Blaze At Elmwood Drive Home

14 members of the Moncton Fire Department extinguished a fire early this morning on Elmwood Drive.

Platoon Chief Paul Bruens says around 6:30 they were called to a structure fire, on arrival they found heavy smoke pouring from the house.

“We made entry into the house, due to the smoke conditions [being] extremely heavy, we had to do some exterior ventilation as well,” says Bruens. “We set up fans to assist the firefighters in ventilating the smoke out of the structure [to improve] visibility inside.”

Bruens says once ventilation was underway, they “found the fire, contained the fire, knocked the fire down, and controlled the fire.”

He adds the fire was contained to the kitchen, and while the house is lived in, no one was home at the time.

Fire investigator Steve Richardson determined the cause to be a kitchen fire, and damage is quite severe.
