The Nature Conservancy of Canada and Google have announced a partnership which will see five nature sites across the country captured in panoramic images.
The first site chosen was the Johnson’s Mills Shorebird Reserve near Dorchester.
Staff at the shorebird reserve used a Google Trekker camera this week to capture images of the landscape and migrating shorebirds in the Upper Bay of Fundy.
The 20-kilogram camera contains 15 lenses and was mounted on a backpack to create panoramic shots for Google Street View.
Johnson’s Mills was chosen this week since it is the peak migration period for millions of shorebirds who stopover for a feast as they make the long journey from the Arctic to South America.
