Looking for that perfect dog? Why not a greyhound?
It’s National Adopt-a-Greyhound month.
Spokesperson for the Maritime Greyhound Adoption Program Deb Levasseur says they are actually quite calm animals, even though many are racing dogs.
She says just because they are fast runners, doesn’t make them a hyper dog. They have actually been called the 45 mile per hour couch potato. because they like to lay around so much.
Levasseur says they are growing in popularity in our region. Most of the dogs come from Florida and are retired racing dogs. Their last load came up March 14th, and they have adopted over 800 dogs since their inception.
The dogs are usually retired between the age of 2 and 5, and the average life of a greyhound is to the age of 13 or 14 years old.
