The YWCA is raising awareness to help reduce, prevent and eliminate gender-based violence.
They have declared it, the “Week without Violence”
Associate Director for the YWCA Beth Lyons says local events will be held in an effort to identify the challenges women face.
On October 15th, the 3rd annual Take Back the Night rally will be held. It will get underway at 7pm in front of Moncton City Hall. Organizers will then lead participants in a march down Main Street and back, ending at the Community Peace Centre.
The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes will be held on October 17th at noon. Participants will walk in high heels down Moncton’s Main Street.
Lyons says we have a high murder suicide rate in the province, and that is primarily domestic suicide.
