Irving Oil Makes Major Acquisition

Irving Oil has bought a large refinery in Ireland.

The Houston-based energy company Phillips 66 operated the refinery called Whitegate.

The sale price was not disclosed.

Whitegate is located near Cork, Ireland.

The refinery was built in 1959 and has a workforce of 160 employees as well as many contract personnel. It processes up to 75,000 barrels of crude oil a day and produces transportation and heating fuels such as gasoline, diesel and kerosene.

The deal caught the attention of Canada’s Ambassador to Ireland, Kevin Vickers.

The acquisition will enable Irving Oil to expand its business across the Atlantic basin to gain valued customers in Ireland, in addition to securing optionality for its business.
