Investments Announced For Moncton Green And Infrastructure Projects

A multi million dollar joint funding announcement will benefit ten projects in Moncton.

MP for Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe Ginette Petitpas-Taylor and Moncton Mayor Dawn Arnold were on hand for the announcement on Friday.

More than $4 million is being invested by the federal government and one million dollars from the City of Moncton.

Moncton Mayor Dawn Arnold says, “Our community infrastructure in Moncton has never been more important than throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. This funding is a critical component of our work to ensure that we have better parks, trails, and green spaces for all Monctonians to enjoy as we emerge from this difficult time.”

The projects include upgrades and improvements including the reconstruction of the Centennial Park Lower Bowl and of the Bayou Trail Bridge in Mapleton Park.

Washrooms are also being added downtown and will be accessible after hours.

This funding also include repairs to the roof at the Moncton Coliseum.

Moncton residents will also benefit from the construction of the Panacadie trail next to Andrew Lane along the marsh to East End pool/park to the corner of Botsford and St. George streets.

Irishtown Nature Park Trail will also see upgrades.

Petitpas-Taylor says, “The Government of Canada is taking strong and quick action to protect the health and safety of all Canadians, to stabilize our economy, and support communities across Canada. These upgrades will allow for Moncton residents to enjoy safe and active outdoor activities and extend the lifespan of municipal infrastructure. Canada’s infrastructure plan invests in thousands of projects, creates jobs across the country, and builds cleaner, more inclusive communities.”
