Injured Snowy Owl Found In Dieppe, Recovering Well

The Atlantic Wildlife Institute says it’s not uncommon to have snowy owl sightings at this time of year.

An owl with a broken wing was spotted hopping by the Dieppe traffic circle last week. He was taken to the Maritime Animal Hospital to be treated.

Director of Wildlife Care with the Atlantic Wildlife Institute Pam Novak says he doing quite well, “We like to get their body weight back up, let the injuries heal and then move them from small enclosures to bigger spaces and get these birds up and flying to determine if they are releasable.”

She says it could be a couple of months before this bird is released.

Novak says last year, they had six snowy owls admitted to the centre for care, and the year before that, it was around a dozen.
