There has been a lot of attention paid in the last week over people being hospitalised when they should be cared for in a different setting.
Stephane Robichaud of the New Brunswick Health Council tells us this has been a problem for years now but it’s time we moved on from this being a perennial crisis.
He contends we have to do a better job of identifying the individual needs of those seniors who are in hospital and get them the help they need not to be there and may even be able to remain in their own homes with the proper assistance.
Robichaud says he hears from those people who work in nursing homes that getting seniors stabalised and understanding their medications and what they’re for is a key component for keeping them out of the hospital.
