Hurricanes Helped Boost NB Temperatures In September

September proved to be a very warm month in New Brunswick.

Environment Canada says the average monthly temperature in Greater Moncton was 16 degrees which is about 2.4 degrees higher than normal and is considered to be quite significant.

Meteorologist Linda Libby says the warmth had a lot to do with the Atlantic hurricane season.

“Even though the storms didn’t make it in over the Maritimes themselves, the fact that they made it up into our southern waters did help bring some of that warm air northward with them into the Maritimes,” she notes.

Although it remains quite dry in the region, Libby adds Moncton received a normal amount of rain for September (93.5 mm) based on the long-term average.
