RCMP issued 202 tickets in a traffic enforcement operation in southeastern New Brunswick.
Vehicles were stopped between August 1 and 3, with violations under the New Brunswick Motor Vehicle Act.
Officers handed out 104 tickets for speeding, 36 for not wearing a seatbelt, 17 for using a handheld electronic device while driving and five for not having insurance coverage.
Sixteen vehicles were towed, and three had to be impounded for seven days because the drivers were over the speed limit.
Police also issued 3 seven day roadside licence suspensions. One person was arrested for impaired driving, one was arrested for refusal to comply with an alcohol demand, and one more was arrested on five outstanding warrants.
“The focus of the RCMP Tactical Traffic Enforcement Unit is on behaviours that pose the greatest risk to the public, whether it be driving behaviour or criminal activity,” says RCMP Sergeant Ghislain David.
“We all have a role to play when it comes to making our roads and communities safer, and our top priority remains to protect the public safe by limiting the number of dangerous drivers on our roadways.”
