Hundreds Of Complaints Received Each Year For Motorists Violating School Bus Safety Laws

Motorists are being warned, abide by the rules of the road when it comes to school buses, or you could face some stiff consequences.

Anglophone East School Superintendent Gregg Ingersoll says they receive around 5 complaints at their office each day of motorists who aren’t stopping for school buses when the red lights are flashing.

That’s about 900 a year.

This is a major safety concern for bus drivers, the students and their families, and if the motorist is caught, it could become a major financial concern for them as well, “The fines for going through a red flashing light on a bus are very steep. They’re a little over $1000, and you also lose four points off your licence.”

Complaints can be called in by bus drivers, or others motorists. If you’re able to get a license plate number and description of the vehicle, contact the RCMP, and Ingersoll says the driver will be charged.
