HubCap Comedy Festival gears up for 26th year

The HubCap Comedy Festival is preparing to bring more than 30 comedy shows to Greater Moncton as it marks its 26th year.

Festival general manager Robert Gallant said the winter timing has always been part of the festival’s identity.

“It’s definitely a time when we need it here,” he said, noting that many people are tired of the weather and ready for something light‑hearted after the holidays.

Gallant has been involved with the festival for 24 years and said the event has grown steadily, expanding from about 15 shows to more than double that number.

He explained that the lineup blends returning favourites with comedians who are new to the Moncton festival, all of whom bring fresh material.

Weather remains the biggest challenge each year, but Gallant noted the festival has never had to cancel a show.

“We’ve always managed to squeeze through with getting our shows in,” he said.

He added that organizers have even sent drivers to Halifax to pick up comedians when flights were diverted.

The festival’s bar shows continue to be a major draw, with some fans returning to the same venue each year while others use the event to explore new pubs and microbreweries.

The Capitol Theatre galas also remain popular because they allow audiences to see several comedians in one night.

Gallant said ticket sales are already strong, with some bar shows sold out and others getting close.

The French‑language shows begin January 21, followed by the English‑language lineup starting January 28.

A full schedule of performances can be found online.
