House Fire In Moncton Leaves One Man In Hospital

A house fire in Moncton earlier this afternoon has done considerable damage and left one man in the hospital.

Platoon Chief Rob Brine says they got a call about smoke showing from a two storey house on Spruce street near Mountain Road.

“There was one gentleman that was inside the building at the time, when we pulled up on scene he was just coming out of the building,” says Brine. “He suffered quite a bit of smoke inhalation and has been taken to the hospital.”

Brine says the fire started in the basement and there is a considerable amount of smoke and water damage.

The Canadian Red Cross says the man’s wheelchair was damaged in the fire, and they were able to get a replacement.

He adds they were lucky the fire didn’t manage to get outside because the high winds would have made their job considerably harder.

The man lived in the home with his sister. The Red Cross had provided the sister with temporary lodging.
