Hot Humid Days Prompts Warning About Heat Related Illnesses

With a heat warning in effect for the region, the government is warning the public about heat related illnesses.

Everyone can be at risk but health risks are worst for the elderly and children.

Also people with chronic illnesses such as breathing difficulties, heart conditions or psychatric conditions are at risk.

You are recommended to drink water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to avoid dehydration.

Provincial medical officer Dr Cristin Muecke says muscle cramps, fatigue, headache and nausea are all symptoms of heat-related illness.

Anyone experiencing those symptoms should be moved to a cool environment to drink cool, non-alcoholic beverages and rest.
