Horizon Health Tries To Cut Down On Waste

With health dollars tight these days, the Horizon Health Network has undertaken a concerted campaign to cut down on waste and become more efficient with estimated savings of nearly 5 million dollars since 2012. Horizon Health recorded a deficit of 1.1 million dollars for 2014-2015 which is one-tenth of one per cent of the overall budget.

Chief Operating Officer Andrea Seymour says they’re now trying to cut down on the amount of food that’s thrown away with same day menuing which was tried in Miramichi with success and Horizon Health is looking to expand the practice to other hospitals.

Horizon Health is using waste walks to reduce the amount of wastage and become more efficient.
