Horizon Health Doctors Say Overcrowding Has Become A Crisis

Overcrowding has reached a crisis level at acute care hospitals in the Horizon Health Network according to medical staff.

Seniors have been left to languish in hospitals where instead they should be in nursing homes or at home receiving care from home support workers.

Dr. Pam Mansfield, president of the Moncton medical staff, says this past winter and spring have become especially bad for overcrowding.

“Where most of our hospitals in the Horizon Health Network have seen patients being housed in the kitchenettes of units, in the hallways of the hospital, in the emergency room for days on end.”

The medical staff at Horizon Health hospitals have written a letter to the Gallant government outlining the crisis situation but so far have received no response.
